Sister Clarice Steinfeldt, nee Alice Louise Steinfeldt, was born in Port Edwards, Wisconsin. She attended John Edwards Elementary and High School there. In 1947, she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Divine Savior in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

After thirty-two years in teaching and administering elementary schools and Divine Savior High School (now Divine Savior Holy Angels High School) and ministering twelve years on the Provincial Administration of the Sisters of the Divine Savior (headquartered in Milwaukee) in the area of Finance, she started a third career, namely, that of visual artist.

Sister Clarice Steinfeldt received her Art degree from Alverno College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In January, 1994, she began cutting Valentines, and in Spring of that year, she branched out into other designs. Her themes come from prayer, inspiration of seizing the "moment," requests from customers, nature, and studying other papercutters work, such as Walter Von Gunten's cylindrical vase which bears a stencil of one of his works.

In July, 1995, Sister Clarice began keeping a photocopy of all of her matted and or framed work; as of May, 2006, she has cut nearly 1,500 original pieces.

Other types of art work which Sister does includes the weaving of baskets and Dream Catchers, carving candles for special occasions (weddings, baptisms, First Communion, etc.), painting Christmas ornaments, creating and printing a variety of greeting cards including "hand embossed" cards with calligraphied messages.

Her work is created, exhibited and sold in the ART STUDIO. Sister Clarice has also been featured in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Numerous of Sr. Clarice's works have been featured in First Cuts, the journal of the Guild of American Papercutters.
